On National Writing Day, it gives me great pleasure to join in the launch of Citizen One News!! Taulbee Jackson and Maria Skiles are leading volunteer students at Cloverdale High School to learn about journalism and how to publish factual news.

As many of you are aware, the Banner Graphic publishes its printed paper 2 days per week; the Spencer Evening World recently changed from publishing daily paper to publishing 1 day per week; and the Hoosier Topics will soon stop publishing. The latter was our community’s only free printed paper.

Citizen One News has the goal of filling the gap in receiving our local news. To give our students the opportunity to research, fact-check, and write about the Cloverdale Community Schools and other community news is very refreshing. Readers can be assured that the information in all articles is factual, not fake news as can be seen with some of the national press and the internet.

It is my personal hope that this will be the beginning of a terrific opportunity for our CHS students to pursue a career path not currently offered in any surrounding schools. I wish Mr. Jackson, Ms. Skiles, and their students all the success life can bring.
